Akshay Kumar: Back in the limelight

Actor Akshay Kumar, who will be seen in a full-fledged action film Rowdy Rathore after almost seven years, says he feels like a newcomer and is very excited about getting into the action mode again, reported IANS.

The film, slated to release on June 1, has been directed by Prabhu Deva and stars actor Sonakshi Sinha opposite Kumar.

“There is a lot of excitement. After seven years I am doing action again. It was because of action that I came into this industry and I am getting a chance to do it again. I am feeling as if I am a newcomer who will be doing action for the first time,” the 44-year-old said at the Rowdy Rathore promotional event.

“I started my career with action. So, action is always going to be very close to my heart. It is in me and that is all I am going to do until I die,” added Kumar, who has previously acted in action films like Khiladi, Mohra and Sangharsh.

Although Salman Khan has chosen action films like Ready, Bodyguard and Dabangg recently, Kumar refuses to draw any comparisons between himself and Khan. “We work in the industry together. We are not race horses. I don’t compare myself to anyone. He is my friend. He does his work and I do mine,” the actor said.

Behind the scenes

In the film, Kumar plays Rowdy, a small-time thief who finds a young girl on his doorstep one day claiming to be his daughter. After recovering from the shock, he starts investigating the girl’s claim and discovers that she is actually the daughter of a police officer Vikram Singh Rathore who is Rowdy’s long-lost twin. From then onwards, the film is a combination of gangsters, murders and a case of mistaken identity.

Kajal set to romance Akshay Kumar

Lady luck definitely seems to have a special place in her heart for Kajal Aggarwal. This year, she’ll be seen in some of the biggest projects in Telugu and Tamil including films opposite NTR, Pawan Kalyan, Ram Charan Tej, Vijay and Suriya. The latest news is that she has finally signed her second Hindi film.

After making her debut in Singham where she played the lead role opposite Ajay Devgan, she got plenty of offers; however, she rejected most of them.

Almost a year later, she is all set to romance Akshay Kumar in a thriller titled Special Chabbis. Neeraj Pandey, who had earlier made A Wednesday, is going to direct the film.

Apparently, Special Chabbis is based on a real-life daring heist in 1987 where an unknown man posing as CBI officer Mon Singh recruited 26 men and executed a daylight raid on the Opera House branch of Tribhuvandas Bhimji Jewellers in Mumbai, and disappeared with jewellery worth lakhs.

Kajal is the only actress in the film amidst 26 men and the buzz in Bollywood is that Akshay Kumar recommended her for this film. She will reportedly join the film’s sets from March 1 onwards. With such big projects in her kitty, there’s no denying that 2012 is turning out to be quite a fruitful year for Kajal.

Akshay, sexiest actor I've worked with: Asin

Akshay Kumar knows how to charm his co stars. Ask all his co-actresses and they will have nothing but praises for him. Latest to join the bandwagon is Asin.

Asin can't stop raving about her Housefull2 costar. "Akshay Kumar is the sexiest actor I have worked with. Shooting with him is loads of fun because he keeps you on your toes all the time."

Revealing the naughty side of Akshay, Asin said, "I love his straight-faced sense of humor. He acts so innocent that you really don't expect him to play any prank on you. He is a prankster. You have to be really careful about your phone when he is around, he'll just whisk it away and do crazy stuff."

Apart from that the actress praises Akki for his extreme professionalism and dedication towards his work. "Akshay is an early morning person and so am I. He is a very disciplined and professional actor. He has a particular time to go to bed. He gets up early in the morning and reports to work on time. He wraps up on time... There's much to learn from him."

Akshay Kumar Biography

Akshay Kumar, the handsome man out of nowhere suddenly entered Bollywood's film industry. He was offered films because of his success as model. Along with his good looks and excellent martial art skills, Akshay Kumar was always the first choice to do adventurous movies, in which he often did his own death defying stunts.

Akshay Kumar's breakthrough performance was in Saugandh (1991). He was well known for his Khiladi series, an Indian version of James Bond, such as Khiladi (1992), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Mr. & Mrs. Khiladi (1997) and Khiladi 420 (2000).

Akshay Kumar has been romantically linked with several of his co-stars including Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty, Pooja Batra and Rekha. But his marriage to Twinkle Khanna, his two time love lady changed his playboy attitudes.

Akshay: Unbuttoned
Akshay Kumar was accused of obscene conduct when he asked his wife to unbutton his Levis while walking the ramp in 2009.

And…..Action!
Akshay Kumar didn’t grab any headlines with his debut Saugandh in 1991. Deedar, Dancer, and Khiladi were released in 1992, with Khiladi being one of the biggest hits of the year. In 1993, he came out with atleast six movies all of which fell flat. But he more than made up for it in 1994 with hits like Mohra with Raveena Tandon, Yeh Dillagi with Kajol and Saif Ali Khan, and Mein Khiladi Tu Anari with Saif Ali Khan and Shilpa Shetty. He received a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actor award for his romantic role in Yeh Dillagi.

The Khiladi tag seemed to be a lucky charm of sorts and he proved it with the 1995 hit Sabse Bada Khiladi and then again in 1996 with Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi. But the 1997 film Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi failed on that note. The same year, his extended supporting role in Dil To Pagal Hai won him the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor nomination. The next two years saw most of his films failing at the box office except for Sangharsh with Preity Zinta and Jaanwar.

He tried his hand in the comedy stream quite successfully in 2000 with Hera Pheri, which was a laugh riot. Dhadkan with pal Suneil Shetty and Shilpa Shetty also was a good performer at the box office. His role as Vikram Bajaj in the 2001 release Ajnabee won him the Filmfare Best Villain Award.

The years 2003 to 2006 saw him in Awaara Paagal Deewana, Andaaz, Mujhse Shaadi Karoge (nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor and Filmfare Best Comedian award), Garam Masala, and the sequel Phir Hera Pheri. Garam Masala fetched him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in a Comic Role.

He proved himself yet again in 2007 with almost all of his films ending up as hits like Namastey London, Bhool Bhulaiya, and Welcome. Though the much hyped Tashan failed to do well in 2008, Singh is Kinng did exceptionally well in India and overseas.

He also kickstarted the adventure based TV reality show, Khatron Ka Khiladi.

In 2009, Akshay did not have much success with his releases as they did not match the hype. He was seen in Chandni Chowk to China with Deepika Padukone as a loser who morphs into a winner. While his fans stood by him, the critics slammed it. Nagesh Kukunoor’s 8x10 Tasveer didn’t evoke a good response. Kambakkht Ishq also fell flat. Blue was appreciated for its visuals. De Dana Dan, a comedy, with his pals from Hera Pheri did a decent job at the box office.

On a Roll….
He is currently working on five movies-Housefull, Helloo India, Action Replay with Aishwarya Rai, Khatta Meeta, and Patiala House.

Personal Life of Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar was born as Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia on the 9th September 1967 in Amritsar to a middle class Punjabi household. His father was a government worker. He grew up in Delhi and later in Mumbai’s Koliwada area. He did his schooling at the Don Bosco School and his college years were spent in Khalsa College, where he took an interest in sports. As a teenager he wanted to master martial arts, but as his father was scared of risking his future with his crazy heroic cravings he promised him to gift all that he wished if, he would secure first class in his board exam. Akshay did achieve his father's demand and flew to Bangkok for Martial Arts training.
Once there he lived with his uncle. His uncle got him job at Metro Guest House where his first salary was, just Rs 1,500. He studied martial arts in Bangkok while working as a chef.

Akki even worked in Kolkata for a travel agency for a year and a half. At this time one of his friends suggested modeling. Although he must have laughed at the very word for the first time, he surely gave a thought...his first salary for modeling is Rs 4000. After his successful start as a model, he changed his name from Rajeev Om Bhatia to Akshay Kumar.

After modeling, a friend suggested to akshay should join films.
Since Akki family was not connected with films and he did not know anyone from the industry, Akki became an assistant to Jayesh Sheth in order to meet people from the profession.
After working with him for eight months, instead of remuneration he ask him to shoot his portfolio.

Akshay began dropping his photos in producer´s offices. At first akshay could not really afford it so he used to ask for his photos to be returned.
But whenever he went back, he would be told that the photos had been misplaced. So he made giant sized prints. At least no one could say they had been displaced!

The large prints worked in Akshay favour and he immediately got his first film. Although he had to struggle for survival before he entered films, He fortunately didn´t have to struggle much for film role.

Akshay will never forget "Khiladi" because it was his first hit. Like everything else in his life, "Khiladi" own his own.
"In Akshay words - I remember one incident that took place after the film was released.
A beggar came up to my car at the traffic signal, tapped on the window and ask for ten rupees. "Why ten rupees?" I ask him. He said: Sir, aapki picture dekhni hai" (comment of the writer: Sir, I want to watch your movie). I liked his style of begging! So I gave him fifteen rupees and told him to eat "samosas" in the interval too."

Akshay Kumar's personal life has provided more than enough grist for the gossip mills. He has been in news for his numerous dates with co-stars like Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty, Pooja Batra and even Priyanka Chopra. Whether his love affair is a true story or not is a mystery to the common man. However his married
life seems to be a fairy tale, where every one is seen smiling. After being engaged to actress Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of veteran actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, they married on January 14, 2001. Their son named Araav was born on September 15, 2002.

In Akshay Words - From success and failure I have learnt a lot. Today, the most important people in my life are my parents. Over the years I have learnt that friends come and go. Only your parents & Family love you unconditional.
